How hard is it to learn jazz bass?

How hard is it to learn jazz bass? Topic: Case saxophone
June 19, 2019 / By Cyrilla
Question: I've been playing saxophone for seven years and I'm in the jazz band and jazz combo at my school. Also, my friends and I have started a jazz combo and we get some paying gigs. But a lot of times in the school and out of school combo we have a lot of trouble finding a bass player. I'm thinking buying a cheap jazz electric bass and learning to play it so we always have a backup in case we can't find a bass player. About how long would this take? I know I'm able to learn new woodwind instruments pretty quickly, but would it take longer with bass?

The technical aspect of stringed instruments isn't that hard; the internet is full of this type of information. The application of concepts and theories and "being able to think on the fretboard" ranges from day one stuff to things that can take an entire evening to explain all of the complexities and subtleties within a single passage.

Japanese is interesting. You can start off fast by learning the kana and some survival Japanese phrases and polite forms. But you can also spend a lifetime trying to master kanji and all of the subtle verb forms and nuances of respectful and humble speech. My best suggestion is to jump in at About.com and Japanesepod101.com. http://japanese.about.com/od/japaneseles... http://www.japanesepod101.com/start It will give you the feel and flavor, and some fast easy steps. If you like it, then there are a ton of local and online resoucres for you to pursue :) Edit note: LOL at the downvoters! Watching anime 24/7 in your mom's basement won't do it :D

If you just begin to play the guitar then you need the very best courses on the market to learn to play that difficult tool and the best is Jamorama website, here https://tr.im/mtC5x In the event that you will learn the guitar for the first time (Or perhaps you tried before and just couldn't get the "hang" of it), then Jamorama is the best class for you since every session includes a video to accompany the maxims, and once you've removed through a week of instructions, you are able to acquire and printing an exercise page associated with these lessons. The video lessons show you how to enjoy notes – the fundamentals of playing guitar. You'll learn to enjoy important, modest, 7th, and simple chords. If you never know very well what any of which means, don't let it frighten you. It's all explained in detail in the videos. The best thing about that is when you receive these principles down, the names and the technicality just float to the background and you do not really have to think about it a great deal more – you are able to just perform!

Since you're already a good musician, you should have no trouble at all learning bass quite quickly. Of course, how long it will take depends on the amount of time you can devote to practicing. Check out Youtube for many great teaching videos. You'll find a wealth of free online lessons available, too. I've listed a couple sources below to get your started. Good luck and have fun!

Rastus Originally Answered: This is for active guitar and bass players. Who makes the highest quality bass neck and has the best action?
That is a really tough question to answer. Action on a guitar really depends on the style of music you're playing as well as a persons own "feel" of the neck. Likewise, the action can be controlled greatly by the bridge, which is a critical component on the guitar/bass. As for the types of necks that I like on bass. Schecter makes some really good feeling necks that enable me to play fairly dynamically without any fret noise. Musicman (even though I don't own one) also makes a really good feeling neck. Pickups: EMG's are fantastic pick ups for the bass. I have HZ's and have used a variety of others in EMG's line up and they always sound warmer and more comprehensive than any other. Bridges: The Badass II was a really good bridge I had contemplated using when I was going to build my own custom bass. If you have more detailed questions, feel free to write me via my profile.
