Question: I have a juvenile record, but nothing violent. I don't want to "lie" on the application. I also served in the Army and got an Honorable Discharge. Do they determine eligibility based on juvenile criminal history??? Thanx for any help....

It would depend on what the crime was for, domestic violence would be a charge that would prevent your licensing or a crime involving a firearm most others would not, the CCW is a simple process and when you take the class they will advise you on what to reveal.~~ PROCESS o Read and study the copy of Chapter 790, Florida Statutes. o Have a passport-style, color photograph made. In Tallahassee, the local CVS Pharmacy Photo Shop can make the passport photo and it costs $7.99 for two color photos as of 10-11-2008. o Get verification of training that satisfies the training requirement. The application lists acceptable documents. Make a photocopy to send with the application as an original cannot be returned. Persons serving in the United States Armed Forces may submit a copy of their Military ID Card to satisfy the training requirement. Our certificate from Talon Training Group meets this requirement. If you use another instructor, make sure their instructor certification number is on the certificate. An affdavit from an instructor will work also. o Get certified copies of court documents relating to any criminal charges against you. Hopefully, you don't have this issue, but, if you do, go to the following link to learn more: http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/weapons/apply.html o Visit your local Sheriff's Office and have them fingerprint you. Find an agency that will submit your prints via Live Scan. If you use the hard copy card, you will have to pay $3 to $5 for a fingerprinting fee, plus the $42 Live Scan fee to the Department of Agriculture. A large number of these cards are not legible and you may get a letter telling you to start over. The Live Scan does a much better job and the results are the same. Don't worry, if the prints are refused, the local Sheriff's Office should redo them for no charge if you bring the letter the Dept. of Ag. sends you. Please submit your application within 90 days of having your prints done on Live Scan, or they will make you redo them. o Complete the application. Either print clearly with ink or type the information. o In the presence of a notary, sign application. We will notarize your application at the class if our notary is present. He generally is. o Submit a check or money order for the license fee payable to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This fee is not refundable. o Assemble everything: + Envelope + Fee + Photograph + Fingerprint card or proof that your fingerprints were submitted electronically by the sheriff's office using Live Scan (along with proof that you paid the sheriff's office or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for the service). Include the reciepts and a copy of the scan. + Proof of training, (our certificate that is). + Certified court documents (if any) + Application with notarized signature o Mail to Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing, P.O. Box 6687, Tallahassee, FL 32314. The enclosed envelope has the correct address on it. The Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License is valid for a period of 7 years. Approximately 90 days prior to the license's expiration date, the Division automatically sends a renewal notice to the address we have on file for the license holder. The mail in permit process generally takes 90 days to obtain after you submit it. Any issue may extend this time frame.

I recommend filling out a paper application and delivering it personally. Make sure you give it to a manager and no one else. I say this for two reasons: 1 you know for sure a manager gets it and 2 it allows them to immediately get an impression of you and whether or not you would be a good fit for the job. Remember just because it's McDonald's doesn't mean you can go in dressed in what ever you want. I'm not saying to wear a dress/suit but you can still look presentable. Wear clothes that look clean and fit. (no baggy clothes) Good Luck!

Going to the store and filling the application out there gives whoever the manager on duty is at the time a chance to look you over. If you make a good impression and you go when they're not busy, you may get an interview right then and there. On the other hand, doing the online application gets your name out to a bunch of stores at the same time. If you live in a populous area where there are a bunch of stores you could work for, it might be worthwhile to do an online app. I'd still go in person to the one or two stores that you're most interested in working for, though.

Just go in and fill out your application truthfully. His criminal record will come up with the credit check. At that point, when they mention it, then you start your talk about how he has changed and is bettering himself and blah blah blah. You can offer to pay a bigger deposit but do explain how much you want your children to live in the apartment complex where you and your children are safe. Most places will give someone a break if they are honest and don't look like a gangbanger when you apply for the apartment. As long as you both are very polite and respectful, you really shouldn't have any problems. I had that problem and really liked the wife and kids but he looked pretty rough and uneducated. I have had no problems and glad I rented to them. He made mistakes when he was young but since has grown up and its a hard working man that supports his family and pays his rent on time.

I don't know if you've actually been turned down, or if you're just being scared off by the background checks. But your best bet is to go ahead and apply to your top choices. Just tell them up front that he has a criminal record, but that he's been doing a lot to put that behind him. Maybe he can get a reference letter saying that he's completed the classes. Best of luck!
